Humanitarian Crisis
Food & basic needs: many people depend on food aid. In camps like Debre Berhan, China camp, Woinshet, Bakelo, there are severe shortages of food, shelter, water, and health services. Newly arrived displaced often don’t get help because they aren’t registered.
Health and Health Care: The humanitarian crisis in the Amhara region has severely strained the health system, leaving it almost empty, and often targeted by conflict. Thousands of civilians face preventable deaths due to the collapse of medical supply chains, destroyed facilities, and restricted access to care. Outbreaks of malnutrition, cholera, and other infectious diseases are rising as displaced populations crowd into unsafe shelters. With doctors fleeing and aid blocked, the right to basic health and dignity has become one of the conflict’s gravest casualties.
Schools & education: Over 3,600 schools closed. Millions of students out of school (4.1 million according to a regional estimate) in 2024-2025. Teachers, schools are under threat, sometimes forced to close by conflict or by pressure from armed groups.
