Security & Government Response

• The region is heavily militarized. Drone strikes are a recurring tool, used by government forces, in civilian-inhabited areas.

• Access and communications remain disrupted in many areas, making it hard for independent verification. Also, prosecutors and rights groups warn that human rights violations (abductions, summary executions, attacks on civilians) are still happening.

• Despite repeated calls for an independent investigation into countless atrocities from the Fanos, the government remains steadfast in blocking access. Unless the international community changes course and decisively demands an end to the government’s military campaign, security will continue to deteriorate and atrocities will persist unchecked
